Dubbo Infection Outcome Study
DIOS recruited adolescents and adults presenting to their family physician in rural Australia with an acute febrile illness serologically confirmed to be Epstein Barr virus, Ross River virus or Q fever infection, and followed them at regular intervals for at least twelve months. At six months caseness for a post-infective fatigue syndrome (PIFS) was documented by a physician and psychiatrist assessment and protocolised laboratory investigations to ensure no alternative medical or psychiatric diagnoses were evident.
